There seems to be a list of everyday problems in all our lives, whether it’s marital or love problems to finding your passion, or from work motivation to how to regain confidence and overcome struggling in life that may have you up against a barrier.
There is a way out!
A Course in Miracles states, “Be glad you have escaped the mockery of salvation the ego offered you, and look not back with longing on the travesty it made of your relationships.”
Around the same time my own problems in life and career as a financial advisor were getting ready to send me to prison over a foolish securities violation–my own lousy errors in thought, I didn’t find it too strange that suddenly I would become a fan of a legendary country singer and songwriter.
List of everyday problems
It was his own rough times and problems in life, as portrayed in a motion picture about portions of his life, that sent me rushing out to buy a few of his music CDs.
I can still hear his rugged voice expressing his views of the world. He was able to escape the world’s problems and heal his own through his music.
While in prison for eight long years my main source of news from the outside world was my trusted pocket-sized radio. I could often be seen with headphones circled around my head, listening to my favorite talk shows, news, and music stations.
How to regain confidence
Having a radio is a blessing that must be self-guarded due to ongoing theft of personal property.
This is one of the ways to escape problems in life of the prison environment; the extreme loudness, vulgarity, crudeness, chaos, and often violent din of the cell block that contributes to the madness of the prison environment.
One day, when a rough morning had just ended for me, and trying to figure out how to regain confidence while lying on my back on my top bunk and scanning the radio stations, I discovered an interview with another singer and songwriter, the daughter of legendary country guitar player.
Her message touched me. She had what I felt was a lesson for me and for my own journey that came from her open heart and mind.
Finding your passion
She knew she had much of her own reality she wanted to extend. Only when she was able to let go of two things was she able to write music from her own heart, with lyrics that were screaming to be revealed.
She was having a tough time trying to paint her own portrait of herself, and felt as though she was obligated not only to protect, but also follow the image and level of success the world had projected for her father.
A Course in Miracles further states, “Now no one need suffer, for you have come too far to yield to the illusion of the beauty and holiness of guilt.”
Also a guitar player and country singer, she began to discuss at length how, early in her career, she had her own problems in life and struggled with songwriting. She couldn’t seem to be consistent in the direction she wanted her career to take her.
Of all for her balance of life and work to excel to her full potential, she had to let go of what the world expected of her. Next, she had to put away the seeming magic wand she was given for success, which was being the protégé of her world-famous father.
She was able to settle down within herself as a true professional in her own way once she was able to decide to get rid of both.
